PRISCILLA SHARROW

Messages From The Heart

WELCOME

I am Priscilla Sharrow (AKA “Princesa”), a California native, transplanted to Washington in 2005. I live with Sir Cliff, my husband, “live-in editor,” and driver of “The Castle,” our 25ft RV. Jacques, our fur baby and resident entertainer, is a lively, red-haired labradoodle who moonlights as my therapy dog.

I am a 23-year TBI Survivor (Traumatic Brain Injury). In August of 1995 while on a business trip, I suffered a severe blow to my head from a computer and case falling from the overhead bin while in flight from Dallas to San Jose, California.

My airline accident injuries included herniated neck discs, compressed lower back vertebrae, chronic pain, and a traumatic brain injury. My life as I knew it was devastated, turned upside down, and forever changed. I was lost. I did not know who I was. I grieved. I gave up. Frustrated and alone, I began again. I survived. I thrived. I discovered a new Priscilla.

I am an author and speaker for the TBI Survivor because I AM ONE. I have the inside scoop. Sometimes I struggle, sometimes I fall down, but I always get up.

Memoir in progress: BONKED! Life, Love, and Laughter with Traumatic Brain Injury.

A Look Inside the world of tbi

Did you know?

The hummingbird is the creature that opens the heart, teaches us to laugh, to enjoy the magic of being alive. The hummingbird demonstrates fierce independence and simple courage. With twittering and vibrating sounds, the hummingbird brings an internal message of health and balance.

Welcome to my studio and sanctuary in Northwest Washington, the Hummingbird Haven Inn where I craft Messages From The Heart, offering spiritual tidings with words and photos, wisdom and wit.

May you stay awhile, rest, be inspired, and take away a little thought or idea to encourage you on your life journey.

The essay, “Bright Lights, Booming Sounds,” (an excerpt from her
memoir, BONKED!) details Priscilla’s shock at her son’s wedding
reception when her traumatic brain injury disability is triggered by the
bright lights and booming music.

Struggling with erupting symptoms of nausea, dizziness, headache,
confusion, and disorientation, Priscilla begs her son, Marcus, to lower
the music, but he answers, “No, Mom, the partying has just begun.”
Frantic, she realizes she must escape. NOW!

Saddened and disappointed upon learning the Mother/Son Dance was
cancelled by the bride, Priscilla had no choice but to exit early from the
festivities without telling her son goodbye. Hurt feelings and
misunderstandings eventually lead to forgiveness and reconciliation
between mother and son.
